Steel matting or cyclone wire for a fence?
Cyclone wire is galvanized, comes in 10-meter rolls, and costs ₱210 to ₱300 per meter at 4 to 6 ft high. Steel matting is rigid welded panels in 4×8 ft or 6×20 ft sheets. In a light gauge it can cost less per meter, but black iron matting must be painted or galvanized for outdoor use, and galvanizing adds about 20 to 35%. Pick cyclone wire for a flexible, ready-galvanized fence. Pick steel matting when you want a rigid panel that is harder to cut.

Price Per Meter of Fence
Cyclone wire is priced per 10 m roll: ₱2,100 (4 ft), ₱2,600 (5 ft), ₱3,000 (6 ft), or ₱210, ₱260 and ₱300 per meter (September 2026). For steel matting, divide the sheet price by the sheet length. The table uses our 2×2 inch black iron price list for October 2026 (pick-up prices, before freight).

Reading the table: at 4 ft, a light-gauge 2×2 sheet costs less than cyclone wire per meter, but once you galvanize it, the two are about the same. At 6 ft, a 2.6 mm sheet is still cheaper than cyclone wire (₱187 against ₱300 per meter, black iron), but a 3.5 mm sheet costs slightly more even in black iron (₱312) and more once galvanized. Wider openings are cheaper still (a 4×4 inch, 2.6 mm 6×20 ft sheet starts at ₱617, or about ₱103 per meter), but the gaps are bigger and the wire is the lightest gauge. Prices change with the steel market, so call us before you order.
Worked Example: 96 Meters of Fence at 4 ft
This uses the same 20 m × 30 m lot as our perimeter guide: 100 m around, 96 m of fence after a 4 m gate, plus a 5% allowance.

Posts, paint, labor and delivery are extra for both options. Black iron matting needs paint or galvanizing to last outdoors, so do not compare its price with galvanized cyclone wire on the base figure alone.

Which Is Stronger and More Secure?
Steel matting is a welded grid. Each junction is fixed, so the panel stays rigid, and in heavier gauges it is harder to cut than cyclone wire. It is used for industrial security fencing, enclosures and machine guards. Cyclone wire is woven, so it flexes. It is strong enough for most lot boundaries and farms, and a heavy-duty fence can add barbed wire along the top. See cyclone wire vs welded wire fence for more on that difference.
Installation
- Cyclone wire: Set posts, unroll the 10 m rolls along them, stretch the mesh tight and tie it off. Rolls are light and easy to carry and follow slopes more easily.
- Steel matting: Panels are rigid, so they are normally fixed to posts or a frame, with a post at each panel joint. They suit flat or stepped ground. Ask your installer how they want sheets cut and fixed.
Which Should You Choose?
- Choose cyclone wire for a long boundary, a sloping lot, a quick install, or when you want galvanized protection without paying extra.
- Choose steel matting for a short, rigid, harder-to-cut fence such as a gate, an enclosure, a machine guard or a security panel, or when you need a custom mesh size or gauge.
- Combine them: cyclone wire for the main fence and barbed wire strands above it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is steel matting cheaper than cyclone wire?
Sometimes. A light 2.6 mm black iron sheet costs about ₱130 per meter at 4 ft against ₱210 for cyclone wire. But black iron must be painted or galvanized outdoors, and galvanized matting costs about the same as cyclone wire.
Which lasts longer outdoors?
Galvanized versions of both are made for outdoor use. Galvanized steel matting lasts about 10 to 20 years in the Philippine climate. Plain black iron matting is meant to be embedded in concrete or used indoors.
Is interlink wire the same as cyclone wire?
Yes. Cyclone wire is also sold as interlink wire or chain-link fence. They are the same galvanized diamond mesh.
What about hog wire?
Hog wire is welded wire fencing with rectangular openings. The nearest products in our range are welded wire mesh and steel matting, which are rigid panels like hog wire rather than woven mesh like cyclone wire.
