What is Steel Matting?
Steel matting — also called wire mesh or welded wire fabric — is a grid of steel wires welded together at regular intersections to form flat sheets. Each sheet is defined by its overall dimensions (length and width), the size of the openings between the wires (mesh opening), and the thickness of the individual wires (gauge). In the Philippines, it is one of the most widely used construction materials for reinforcing concrete slabs, driveways, floors, and walls.
Steel matting is available in several material types to suit different environments and budgets. Black iron is the standard, cost-effective choice for most indoor and embedded-concrete applications. Galvanized matting has a zinc coating that resists rust, making it suitable for outdoor and wet environments. Stainless steel matting is the premium option for food-processing plants, pharmaceutical facilities, and marine applications where hygiene and maximum corrosion resistance are critical. Una Wire Products manufactures all three types direct from our facility in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
Why Buy from Una Wire?
- Manufacturer pricing, no middleman. We make the matting ourselves in Quezon City, so you deal directly with the source. No distributor markup — just factory-direct prices whether you order one sheet or a full truckload.
- Any size, any gauge, any material. Standard 4′×8′ and 6′×20′ sheets are always available, but we also manufacture fully custom orders. Need a non-standard sheet size, an unusual wire gauge, or a specific mesh opening? Send us your specs and we will produce to your exact requirements.
- Over 50 years of wire and mesh expertise. Una Wire Products Inc. was incorporated in 2021, but our management and production team bring over five decades of hands-on experience in the wire and mesh industry — dating back to 1975. That depth of technical knowledge means your order is handled by people who genuinely understand the product.

Common Uses in Philippine Construction
Steel matting is one of the most versatile materials on a Philippine construction site. Here are the most common applications:
- Concrete slab reinforcement. The primary use for steel matting in the Philippines. Embedded in poured concrete for residential floors, commercial slabs, and rooftops to control cracking and increase tensile strength.
- Road base and driveway construction. Heavier-gauge matting (4.0mm–6.0mm) in 6×20 sheets is used to reinforce roads, driveways, and parking areas subject to vehicle loads.
- Security fencing and perimeter barriers. Rigid steel matting panels are used as industrial security fencing, perimeter enclosures, and machine guards — more rigid and harder to cut than cyclone wire.
- Industrial and warehouse floors. Heavy-gauge galvanized or stainless matting is used for factory floors, walkways, drainage grating, and elevated platforms in industrial facilities.
